Taejongdae Park, Busan: A 100-Year Legacy of Sea, Cliffs, and Legends
Located at the southernmost tip of Yeongdo in Busan, Taejongdae Park is a masterpiece of nature where lush green forests meet the deep blue ocean. It is a place where wave-cut cliffs, sculpted by time, display their mysterious shapes against the horizon.

The park derives its name from King Taejong Muyeol of the Silla Dynasty. Legend has it that the King, captivated by the breathtaking scenery, would stop here to practice archery and rest. Today, with its magnificent rock formations and dense pine forests, it remains a premier travel destination for families, couples, and friends seeking a retreat into nature.

Getting Around: The Danubi Train
While the park is walkable, the most popular way to explore is the Danubi Train. This cute, colorful road train circulates through the park's main scenic route.
• How to Use: From the main entrance tourist information center, walk up about 5 minutes to find the ticket office and boarding platform.
• Hop-On, Hop-Off: Once you purchase a ticket, you can get on and off freely at designated stops throughout the park. This allows you to explore specific attractions at your own pace and catch the next train when you are ready to move on.
• Walking Option: For those who prefer trekking, the park features well-maintained natural tunnels formed by trees. A pair of comfortable sneakers is all you need to enjoy the coastal walking paths.

Highlights of Taejongdae
The train route passes the Taewon Pebble Beach and the Namhang Viewing Point before reaching the main attractions.
1. The Observatory
This is the first major stop for the Danubi Train and a must-visit location. The observatory deck offers an unobstructed, panoramic view of the ocean. On clear days, you can see the Oryukdo Islets and even Tsushima Island in Japan. It is the perfect spot for a commemorative photo against the backdrop of the endless sea.

2. Yeongdo Lighthouse
Just down the stairs from the observatory stands the historic Yeongdo Lighthouse. Established in 1906, it has guided ships for over 100 years without ever letting its light fade. In 2004, it was renovated into a marine cultural space featuring the "SEE & SEA" gallery, a natural history exhibition hall, and a cafe with ocean views.

3. Sinseon Rock and the Legend of Mangbuseok
Below the lighthouse lies a flat, vast rock formation known as Sinseon Rock, named after the myth that hermits and spirits once came here to play. Standing atop this rock is a solitary stone pillar called Mangbuseok. It carries a sorrowful legend of a woman who waited on this cliff for her husband to return from the sea, eventually turning into stone. These geological formations, combined with local folklore, add a layer of mystical depth to the scenery.

A Sanctuary Near the City
Taejongdae also features stairs leading down to hidden pebble beaches (Jagal Madang), where the sound of waves rolling over stones creates a soothing ASMR experience. Despite being close to downtown Busan, the park feels untouched and pristine. It is a place where the landscape changes with every step, ensuring that travelers never feel a moment of boredom.
