The Local Aesthetics of Slowness: Finding Peace at Huinnyeoul Culture Village, Busan
If you are looking for a place in Korea where time seems to slow down, look no further than the coastal cliffs of Yeongdo, Busan. Here, perched precariously yet beautifully above the Jeoryeong Coastal Walk, lies the Huinnyeoul Culture Village.
It is a unique landscape where small houses cling to the steep cliffside, forming a narrow, winding alleyway that hugs the endless blue ocean. Once a humble settlement for war refugees starting their difficult lives, it has now transformed into a beautiful cultural community where art and local life coexist.
For travelers seeking "local peace" and the healing power of the sea, this village offers a quiet escape from the bustling city.

The Story of the White Stream
The name "Huinnyeoul" is as poetic as the scenery. It was named after the streams of water that wind down from the foot of Bongraesan Mountain, which looked like falling white snow (Huin means white, Yeoul means stream).
Since December 2011, the village has undergone a transformation. By remodeling empty and aging houses, it was reborn as a creative art village that preserves the authentic lifestyle of Yeongdo while embracing artistic expression.

The Aesthetics of Slowness
The village path is the epitome of the "aesthetics of slowness." As you walk along the Huinnyeoul-gil, originally the only route to Taejongdae before the modern road was built, your gaze will naturally rest on the horizon.
The path connects 14 different narrow alleys, each filled with charming cafes, art workshops, and independent bookstores. Walking slowly through these lanes, you will find beauty in the details—the expansive ocean view framing every turn, and the nameless green plants sprouting resiliently between the stone cracks. It is a place that adds a breath of fresh air to a weary daily life.

Cinematic Views and a Taste of Peace
Even if you have not seen the famous Korean movie The Attorney, you will recognize the filming location by the large lines written on the wall of "Jin-woo's House." For many travelers, this wall is the number one photo spot in Yeongdo, capturing the essence of the village's nostalgic charm.
However, the true "must-do" experience here is at Huinnyeoul Jeombang. Imagine sitting on a plastic stool, facing the vast open sea, and blowing on a hot bowl of Korean ramen. It is a humble meal, but with that view, it tastes better than any luxury dining. In that moment, a ray of peace seeps into the tired heart.

A View Unique to Yeongdo: The Anchorage
The view from the village offers something you cannot see at other beaches like Haeundae. Looking out, you will see large and small ships floating like dots on the water.
This is the Myobakji (Anchorage), a designated area where ships entering Busan Port drop anchor to wait for a while. This exotic scenery of stationary ships against the rolling waves creates a calm, painting-like atmosphere that is unique to Yeongdo.
At the end of the village path, the road connects down to the Jeoryeong Coastal Walk, where you can watch travelers energetically climbing between the cliff and the shore.
Where art has bloomed on a steep cliff once thought uninhabitable, the Huinnyeoul Culture Village awaits. Come here to feel the wonder of the Yeongdo sea and find a moment of stillness.
